After riding for BCD Yamaha MS Racing this season in the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship, Maria Herrera is set to return to the Grand Prix paddock in 2019, as the Ángel Nieto Team have announced her as their second rider for the inaugural FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup.

The Spanish rider will line up alongside 2011 125cc World Champion and former WorldSBK and WorldSSP rider Nico Terol for the Ángel Nieto Team, and is set to play a starring role in the first global racing series for electric motorcycles. The MotoE™ World Cup will have 18 riders who compete on identical bikes and comprises five rounds, racing alongside MotoGP™ at Jerez, Le Mans, the Sachsenring, the Red Bull Ring and Misano.

The 22-year-old finished 13th in the World Supersport 300 standings this season, taking one fastest lap along the way and crossing the line an impressive fourth in her final race Magny-Cours, with several more top ten finishes to her name.

Herrera is excited ahead of this new challenge: “I am really happy to have signed with the Ángel Nieto Team for the FIM Enel MotoE World Cup, I think we will make a good team. I am already looking forward to getting to work in November at the first test, which will be my first time on the bike. I am very happy because this season I have already ridden a 600 at a good level, even though I know the move to MotoE will be a new challenge, and I will keep training for it in the same way. I have been told a few things about the bike, which I think will be very different to anything I have ridden before, but it will just be a case of adjusting. I just need to get to know the mechanics, because I know the rest of the team from last year. I like the fact the team is from Valencia because I have a special bond with this place and the atmosphere will be like a family. I am excited to return to the World Championship paddock and for as many people as possible to see me ride, because this season I have already shown that I can compete with the best”.
